Leaving, and Returning to Stanford: A Guide to Taking and Returning from a Leave

There may be a lot going through your mind right now as you prepare to leave Stanford for some time away. Perhaps it is a voluntary decision, perhaps it is not. Whatever has led you to this point, this booklet is here to guide you through this time of transition.

In this booklet, you will find information about the University's leave and reinstatement policy, commonly asked questions, a checklist of things to address as you prepare for your time away, and resources available to you during that time as well as during your transition back to the University. Remember that life takes many different paths and that you are not alone.

Returning to Stanford: A Guide to Taking and Returning from Time Away

You've had some time away, but now you're ready to return to Stanford. Where to begin? First of all, take a moment to reflect on the journey that has brought you here. How did you spend your time away? What were some of the challenges you faced? What are some of the accomplishments you achieved? You may have gone through some changes while away, but you’re now ready to return.

The following pages are here to help you transition back to Stanford life and contains information on how to return and register, lists the essentials for a smooth return, and reminds you of the resources available to you. If you have any questions or if you just need to talk to someone, your advisors are here for you.
